     Allium sativum is a bulbous plant.  It grows in the wild areas where it has become naturalized.  It grows upto 1.2m (4 feet) in height.  It hardiness USDA zone 8.  It produce hermaphrodite flowers  pollination occurs by bees and other insects.

     One of the best known "Garlics", called Elephant garlic, is actually a wild leek (Allium ampeloprasum) not a true garlic.  Single clove garlic(also called pearl or solo garlic) originated in the Yunnan province of China.
     Subspecies and varieties
  There are two subspecies of garlic ten major groups of varieties and hundreds of varieties or cultivars.
1) Allium sativum var.ophioscorodon
2)Allium sativum var.sativum 
     Garlic is easy to grow and can be grown year-round in mild climates.  Garlic is grown globally, but China is by far the largest producer of garlic.
