PEPPER - INTRODUCTION

              INTRODUCTION OF PEPPER

Peppers are a member of the Solanaceae (night shade

family). Peppers may be "hot" or "sweet". Peppers are a long

season, heat loving crop. This crop requires 3 to 4 months of frost

and cold weather. So they are not generally transplanted until mid

June. The minimum soil temperature for seed germination is 15

degree celsius and maximum is 35 degree celsius and an optimum

range of 18 to 35 degree celsius. Capsaicin manufacture found that

the pepper fruit peel contains capsaicin so that make it as spicy

taste, can increase appettite. Pepper's vitamin C content is ranked

in first place of vegetables.

Only with the development of cultivars such as "Ace hybrid"

and "super set" has pepper growing in the field. Peppers are mainly

limited to the areas of the Atlantic provinces which can

successfully  grow grain corn. Peppers require an adequate and

regular supply of water. Well drained soils, well supplied with

organic matter are required.

Red peppers do not mature on cultivars such as "super set"

until late August. In the field crops are generally are highly

variable in yield from year to year.10,000 kg per hectare is thought

to be a good field yield. In tunnel houses yields of 4.5 kg per

square meter have been obtained.(45,000 kg per hectare)

                 NUTRIENT CONTENT:

Excellent source of vitamin C. Good source of other vitamins

and minerals including potassium. Low in calories - one medium

raw pepper contains about 15 kilo calories. Pepper can do the main

course, also can be used to side dishes or soup can also be

used as  pharmaceutical raw materials.

Health Benefits of Drumstick to Children and Pregnant And Lactating Mothers:

Drumstick grown in countries like India and Pakistan is greatly valued vegetable for its antibacterial and cleansing  properties. The various parts of this plant like its fruits; small white flowers and small round leaves are all valued for their different uses. They are cooked and eaten as vegetable.
The pods of drumstick and its leaves have a rich source of acrotene, calcium, phosphorus and Vitamin C and are used in various South Indian dishes because of their high nutritional value. The different parts of the drumstick plant are valued for their therapeutic value and have been used to cure various diseases because of their medicinal value and high content of iron.
Drumstick leaves can be given to infants and growing children and serve as a good tonic. However it may be difficult for children to eat them naturally, as they are bitter. So the best way to give them to infants would be to extract the juice from these leaves, filter it and mix them with milk before being given to them. However older children can be given the fruit and leaves in the form of curries and other preparations like the South Indian Sambar or mixed and cooked with pulses. They help build healthy and strong bones and also help to purify the blood stream.
Pregnant and lactating mothers can benefit a lot from the health benefits of drumstick leaves and fruit. Drumstick leaves is an ideal tonic for pregnant and lactating mothers and provide them with the calcium, iron and vitamins that  help to reduce the sluggishness of the uterus and help have a safe and easy delivery. In addition they also help to eliminate and reduce post delivery complications and help to increase breast milk in lactating mothers. Soup prepared by boiling drumstick leaves with water and salt, draining the water and eaten after smearing with ghee helps. Some mothers may appreciate eating it as a vegetable with pulses added to it.

SEVEN WAYS TO EAT AND DRINK TURMERIC:

Turmeric has long been a staple in Indian curries as well as in foods like mustard (it provides that golden yellow color!), but there are lots of other ways to eat and drink this spice. Here are seven easy ideas.
  • 1. Add it to scrambles and frittatas. Use a pinch of turmeric in scrambled eggs, a frittata, or tofu scramble. If you or your family are new to turmeric, this is a great place to start because the color is familiar and the flavor subtle.
  • 2. Toss it with roasted vegetables. Turmeric's slightly warm and peppery flavor works especially well with cauliflower, potatoes, and root vegetables.
  • 3. Add it to rice. A dash of turmeric brings color and mild flavor to a pot of plain rice or a fancier pilaf.
→ Recipe: Fragrant Yellow Rice
  • 4. Try it with greens. Sprinkle turmeric into sautĂ©ed or braised greens like kale, collards, and cabbage.
  • 5. Use it in soups. A bowl of vegetable or chicken soup feels even more warming when it's tinged with golden turmeric.
  • 6. Blend it into a smoothie. While fresh turmeric root is especially great in juices and smoothies, a pinch of ground spice is good, too. The slightly pungent flavor is usually well masked in smoothies.
→ Recipe: Superpower Morning Smoothie (the recipe doesn't call for turmeric but you can definitely add it!)
  • 7. Make tea. Simmer turmeric with milk and honey to make an earthy and comforting beverage.
→ Recipe: Turmeric-Ginger Tea
→ An additional tip: If you're looking to get the health benefits of turmeric, pair it with pepper. Herbalist Rosalee de la ForĂȘt tells us, "To get the most out of your turmeric add 3% black pepper to the mix. Black pepper improves the bioavailability of turmeric, making smaller doses more effective." This works out to about 1/2 teaspoon of ground pepper to 1/4 cup of turmeric. To make it easy, I simply premix pepper into my jar of turmeric.
